A Successful AFG Fire Grants Story

Posted by admin on Wednesday, March 11th, 2009

Every year there are thousands of applications for assistance from the government through the Assistance for Firefighters Grant or AFG for free federal grant money. This report was issued on the website www.BroughtonVFD.org. This is one of the successful applications dated November 7, 2003.

The Broughton Volunteer Fire Department from South Park, Pennsylvania was the recipient of federal grant money in the amount of $ 217,305.00 from the AFG program. This money will be used to improve fire operations and the safety of their firefighters. The U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) administers this program. This grant is part of the $750 million awarded to over 7,000 fire departments and rescue squads across the United States of America in 2003.

Michael D. Brown, Under Secretary of Homeland Security for Emergency Preparedness and Response is quoted as saying “Firefighters play a key role in the safeguarding America, and these fire grants funds provide first responders with the resources necessary to protect our communities from all hazards”. Mr. Brown continued to say “I join President Bush and Secretary Ridge in applauding our nation’s firefighters and share their commitment to ensuring that first responders have the proper equipment, resources, training and support to fulfill their responsibilities.”

Another statement from R. David Paulison, the U.S. Fire Administrator was quoted “In this nation, far too many individuals lose their lives or are injured by fire. Among these victims are firefighters, who provide emergency response services to their fellow residents.”

The AFG program is providing the necessary assistance needed across our great nation. If your department is in need of equipment or training to fulfill its responsibilities, apply today for federal grant money through the AFG program.
