Another Successful AFG Fire Grants Application

Posted by admin on Wednesday, March 11th, 2009

This is another account of an application for the free government grant money through the AFG Program that was successful.

As reported on February 20, 2005, the Minneapolis Fire Department received $724,500 from the Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program for 2004 from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. The proceeds from the grant were used to purchase and install carbon monoxide-removing equipment in the Minneapolis fire stations.

In their application, under the description of need was the explanation that carbon monoxide can accumulate with their fire trucks and other pieces of equipment that use fossil fuel as a source of power. This new equipment will eliminate the build up of carbon monoxide in the fire stations.

This year’s grant to Minneapolis Fire Department was one of the largest awarded to any fire department in the nation. This was also the fourth year Minneapolis was granted funds from the AFG program.

C. Suzanne Mencer, the director of Department of Homeland Security Office of State and Local Government Coordination and Preparedness stated, “ We recognize the importance of the Fire Act Grants to our nation’s fire departments and we will continue to work closely with the fire service community to meet their needs.”

“The nation’s firefighters and American homes are safer today through this important grant program” was a statement made by R. David Paulison, the U.S. Fire Administrator.

If you or your fire department are considering whether to include the Ward Diesel “No Smoke” devices in your application, look at Minneapolis as a positive result. Their application for federal grant money for equipment to improve the quality of air in their station was approved.
