Get Your Congressman Involved
If Your Representatives Help:
If your need is great and the cause just, enlist the help of your local or federal representative for assistance when working on and submitting your application to the AFG program. Your representative is a public official. Your department is a public organization that was established to service and assist the public and the AFG program is a public fund. There is also an instance that the AFG review panel has approved this path.
On February 19, 2009 the American Fire Company #1 of Carbon County had a grant approved from the AFG program in the amount of $137,513. This funding will be used for three separate projects. The first is to purchase a ventilation system for the fire station to remove the exhaust gases from the fire trucks. The second is to replace firefighting gear that is old and in disrepair. The third is to purchase a washing machine to remove contaminants from the PPE that the firefighters wear during their service to the community.
The Assistant Fire Chief, Joseph Greco, from the American Fire Company #1 expressed his gratitude to Congressman Kanjorski by making the following statements: “We are very appreciative of Congressman Kanjorski’s efforts to help fire companies take on such needed projects with federal funding because projects of this scale could never be completed from just fundraising.” He went on to say, ”This equipment will ensure the health and welfare of the firefighters in our department.”
Congressman Kanjorski stated, “I am pleased that such an admirable group of firefighters received this federal grant. The firefighters of Lansford’s American Fire Company #1 continuously risk their lives every day to ensure the safety of the people of Lansford. With upgraded protective equipment and devices, the firefighters and local citizens’ safety will be more protected.”
It is not stated what help the congressman provided but the appreciation for what he did was there and expressed. For your additional information, this station houses 35 volunteer firefighters. This award was also specific in the amount awarded, down to the dollar. Just a couple of things to think about when submitting an application for federal grant money through the AFG Program.
