An AFG Fire Grants Overview
The Assistance to Firefighters Grant is a free federal funded grant program designed to train and equip the firefighters and non-affiliated emergency medical services across the nation.
It was established in 2001 after the terrorist attacks on our nation. The AFG program has helped those first responders to be better equipped to deal with the hazards of catastrophic events. A side effect of this is better-trained and equipped firefighters and EMS personnel for suppression of fires, medical help, and emergency search and rescue at accident/emergency situations involving U.S. citizens.
The application process for funds is a very complex process though. Hence, the people at Ward Diesel have helped many applicants that are seeking the free federal funds to achieve this goal. Ward Diesel is even mentioned on FEMA’s home page named “AFG will train personnel on how to write a grant proposal for AFG grant.”
With $560 million appropriated for the AFG in the fiscal year of 2008, the capabilities of our firefighters and EMS personnel will be better equipped to handle the dangerous situations that their job entails.
AFG program is part of the homeland security preparedness aim by following the national preparedness guidelines to form a unified structure of readiness across our nation. The guidelines are a vision covering all hazards with four core objectives:

Since the services that benefit from the AFG program have improved, many lives and millions of dollars in property have been saved. One of the best benefits of better-trained and equipped personnel is an increase in efficiency dealing with emergency situations while saving more lives and property.
